A poll...

September 8, 2009
So, I was thinking the other day (uh oh, run!)... I started adding the "About the book" section to my reviews, in the past couple of months. I had done it for giveaways and tours, because (especially for the giveaways) how else would you know what the book's about?

Anyway. Question for y'all--should I leave that section in, or take it off, the review posts? I sometimes feel like I have to be conscious to not repeat stuff in the review that's already mentioned in the "About". What do you think?

Hi Drey,
I do things a little backwards from most of your readers. I read your thoughts on the book first. For me if you don't like the book chances are either will I. I value your opinion and friendship very much!! Your thoughts on a book are often funny and informative. You really do help me pick out a book. I do read the about the book section only if I like how the rest of the review is going. Well I hope this helps you out Drey. Take care. All the best.

I don't think it's repetitive because I have so many reviews coming in and out of my head from blogs I tend to forget what's what!

I think it depends on how much of a plot summary you do. When I write a review, I do very little plot and spend a long time talking themes and mechanics. So an "About the book" section would make sense.

You're not the only one thinking, btw. Heh heh Het.

I recently went through this myself, I used to use the summary from the back of the book and then write my own summary as well. I've dropped it off because to me it did seem repetitive. But I'm finding that I often miss things that could be helpful to getting someone to read the book.

I always put the book description in my posts. I do the book decription first then my review under it. I know that I like to read what the book is about and the reviews. :)

Either way is fine - do what you're comfortable with.

Thanks for the input, y'all! I really appreciate it. I think for now I'll keep it in, till it bugs me so much that I just have to take it out. It helps to keep the posts consistent, if you know what I mean. Yes, I'm anal. Or whatever the p-c term is for that. =)

I read it if it's there, and don't worry if it isn't, so whatever...

I just realized that the comment I made was totally off the mark! Thank heavens ONE of us ISN'T thinking!!! :--)

But actually, my answer is the same. I don't mind seeing it twice. People like me who take at least 24 hours to absorb a thought need that repetition! :--)
