Sag Harbor was my first B&N First Look book club books. I have been very remiss in my club "duties". While I dutifully read each chapter on the assigned week, I did not really participate in the discussions as much as I want to.
I've only made it through 2/3 of the book. I think I lost interest with the slower reading pace of the book club. And while I kept meaning to, I never picked it up again. So, this review's based on a partial read.
Sag Harbor follows Benji and his brother Reggie on their annual summer escape, in 1985. This coming-of-age novel reveals the nuances of summer life for these African-American high-schoolers, who're trying to maintain social relationships with people they only see for those short few months. From the start of summer, where they try to find out who's made it out to Sag Harbor, to negotiating social rank with their compatriots, to the first job, Sag Harbor is a poignant story of the angst of growing up, fitting in, and finally, growing up.
I personally will pick this up again, I just need to find some free time that isn't already spoken for! =)

I only made it to about page 40....
I have it and am now hesitant to start it..but have so much more to read first. BTW, Drey, they have a new book up at B&N for First Look in case you wanted to sign up. I am having battles with them at the moment about changing all my older reviews to read by ANONYMOUS since they changed their system....grrr! It plays havoc when I submit a review to be published and they investigate and see ANONYMOUS reviewed it over on B&N, they legally question the author even though I show them 3 or 4 other places where my real name is attached to the same verbatim review!!! PHEW! Thanks! That was a really good 2 AM venting..not meant for your comments I'm sure but you did say "go ahead, say someting!...and well, we all have those times, don't we???
I didn't enjoy this one much either.
Ah oh, I'm not feeling the love of your review or the other comments.
That about tells the story for me which is always to bad. I know how hard authors work, and I can't imagine what it feels like to put something out that falls short......
I just got this one as a win from the very sweet Bingo, and now I am concerned. :) I have several books up before it so I am not going to stress it. :) I bet you get to it first. :)
