128. Alibi by Teri Woods...

August 10, 2009
alibiAbout the book:
Two men think they've found the perfect opportunity--a chance to rob the stash house of Simon Shuller, one of Philadelphia's biggest drug lords. But their plans are spoiled by Nard, one of Shuller's soldiers. Now, with a couple of dead bodies on his hands, Nard needs to make a fast getaway. Thinking quickly, he cleans shop and makes his escape, but not before being spotted by a few neighbors. Nard realizes he needs a plausible alibi. If he doesn't come up with one fast, it could mean life in prison, or death on the streets.

Daisy Fothergill needs money--fast. Life as a stipper and bar maid isn't paying the bills, so when her boyfriend offers to pay her to provide an alibi for his friend, Daisy is more than happy to oblige. But once Daisy realizes she's provided a fake alibi to a cold-blooded killer and that the FBI is on to her, she decides to go on the run...from Nard and from the FBI. But someone is watching Daisy, and her time is about to run out.

drey's thoughts:
Ah, Daisy, Daisy, Daisy. What on earth have you gotten yourself into?? Not that your life was easy--oh, no.. But girl! Providing an alibi? To someone you don't even know? For someone you barely know? Why?? Yes, I'm shaking my head...

Teri Woods' Alibi is, at its core, the story of a shakedown gone bad--and its aftermath. It is also the story of a girl who makes a bad decision. And follows it with more bad decisions. But she can't help it--once she figures out what she's done, she's just trying to stay ahead of everyone.

There's quite a bit of violence in this one, so it's not for the squeamish. And it's not quite a mystery, as there's no whodunnit (hmm, are there 2 "n"s in whodunnit, or just 1?). But it sure grabs hold of your attention all the way to the end. Even while you're shaking your head at Daisy Mae Fothergill... At the end of my ARC was a sneak peek at Alibi 2, and I can't wait to see what happens there.

Sounds good. But I have to say...how can this girl not have money when she is a barmaid and a stripper? :) That alone has me curious! Great review as always, Drey!
