What's on your nightstand?

October 28, 2008
** moved from drey's house **

As I've been checking out other blogs, I found a whole slew of blogs for readers. What a treasure for a bookworm! Anyway, at 5 Minutes for Books, I found an "event" -

What's On Your Nightstand

Continue...
I haven't done much reading this month, especially when compared to this summer. However, I did read:
  • Cry Wolf by Patricia Briggs - I picked this up because it's by Patricia Briggs, & I love her Mercy Thompson series.
  • Cast in Fury by Michelle Sagara - The continuation of Kaylin's growth and (hopefully) maturation...
  • The Last Lecture by Randy Pausch - Surprisingly the Mr. brought this home. Apparently he'd heard about it somewhere & thought it worth checking out. Which it was. I am still amazed (impressed? surprised?) by how positive the whole book, & Mr. (Dr.?) Pausch was.
  • No Humans Involved by Kelley Armstrong - This was a pick from Half-Priced Books, just for fun.
  • The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss (re-read) - I have to admit that I've read this book 3.5 times (I'm still not done with the fourth reading). I love this story of a desperate, cocky, smart-aleck orphan who's trying to succeed at the University because there's not a whole lot left for him to pursue in terms of prospects / livelihood / life. And I cannot wait to see how the rest of his story plays out.
  • Midnight's Daughter by Karen Chance - I've read her Cassandra Palmer series, and enjoyed them so I thought I'd see what she does with a new series. So far I've not quite gotten into the gotta-finish-this-one-and-find-out-what-happens mode.
From the library came:
  • Le Divorce by Diane Johnson - I'm in the middle of this right now, and one thing I've come to appreciate is the nuances in language - how you say something has different connotations when you say it in a different language - even when you're saying the exact same thing. I've never thought of it that way before.
  • Goodnight Nobody by Jennifer Weiner
  • The Guy Not Taken by Jennifer Weiner

All 3 from the library were impulse pick-ups. Who knows why? But I've ran out of books by my favorite authors, and one must try a new one sometime, right?

I also bought The Mermaid Chair, by Sue Monk Kidd, which is currently on loan to my friend D who's recovering from surgery, so I suppose it can't be on my "nightstand"...
