drey's blogoversary: Day 1!

November 23, 2009
Ok, here we go! To kick-start my blogoversary celebration, I have a few books for you to choose from. How many books get new homes, depends on how many people enter the giveaway... All books have been very gently read--they are either from my library, or a book sent to me for review.

Rules:
-- Contest is open to US residents only, no PO Boxes please! Sorry, international folks, I cannot afford shipping overseas...
-- Follow for 1 extra entry. I am going to be very particular about this--I must be able to verify this, so please let me know where you follow, and how I can identify you. Email address (Feedburner email), name (facebook NetworkedBlogs), twitter id, blogger profile page, etc.
-- To enter, comment about the extra entries for the giveaways here on drey's library, and tell me if you like them or not, with reason, please. I'm considering making my life easier, and removing extra entries will do that, but if you blog about the giveaways, or tweet 'em, etc., then there should be a recognition that you did something other than say "enter me", right? Or am I making this wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too complicated?
-- Make sure there's an email address (you at email dot com), and list which book(s) you'd like, in order of preference.
-- Do it all before 6:00 pm CST December 4th. Good luck!

Winners:
Every 10 people entered means ONE winner gets picked, for a maximum of 10 winners. So, go nuts and tell the world.

Now for the important part, the books (click on the titles for more information):
  1. Liam Hearn's Tales of the Otori: Across the Nightingale Floor, Grass for His Pillow, Brilliance of the Moon (yes, this is a 3-book set)

I like extra entries and I think it helps promote the giveaways for the blogs that do them. That begin said, I think that extra entries should be limited to one or two specific ways. At least, that's how I like to do them.

I follow you on Twitter @TequilaReader

Amber Benson's Death's Daughter
Jeaniene Frost's Halfway to the Grave
Michelle Rowen's Tall, Dark & Fangsome

Congratulations on your celebration! Your blog is the best and so enjoyable. I don't mind extra entries but they aren't important to me nor necessary. The books are delightful and unique. It would be great to read Japan took the J.A.P. out of me, Tell me Something Ttue and how Perfect is that. Thanks so much for this great giveaway. saubleb(at)gmail(dot)com

Extra entries are great, especially when they prompt more participation than just "enter me in the contest". Are the extra entries too much extra work for you?

Jennifer Haymore's A Hint of Wicked
Patricia Briggs' Dragon Blood
Chris Marie Green's A Drop of Red

I like the extra entries, but I think you should limit them to make your life easier!

I have been waiting for a post where I could say CONGRATULATIONS! Is this your 2nd year? I can't tell but for me, it seems like you are a pioneer as everyone knows you, loves you and your blog...and why not?! You are a great blog friend and I am glad I am finding more time to come around now. I follow on GCF but really wanted to say CONGRATS!

Bingo said...

Oh if you want my humble opinion, I think extra entries are painful for the contestant and probably the blogger even more but people do like those extra chances...I know mine are a pain in the neck as I make them so confusing! Somehow people get it...I do think blogging about it and tweeting (if I knew how) are the best to always include if possible as it gets the word out...just my opinion..and CONGRATS again!

Hi Drey!

Great giveaway and again congrats on your blogoversary :)

I don't really mind if their is extra entries or not. Sometimes it's nice because we get more of a chance to win the books. But sometimes I'm too lazy to do them lol.

Congratulations on the bloggiversary! I don't get over here nearly as much as I would like too.

I think limiting extra entries to give aways to just a few is a good thing. On my blog, I'm considering having 3 ways: 1. answer the main question or comment on the book/author, 2. be a follower or email subscriber, and 3. promote the give away somehow - twitter, blog post, whatever. Too many ways to enter can get confusing and then people are just joining things they won't use to get extra entries.

With that said, I do follow via blogger ;-)

You have some wonderful books up for grab! I'd like to be entered for:

1. Jeaniene Frost's Halfway to the Grave and One Foot in the Grave
2. Jacqueline Carey's Banewreaker and Godslayer

Great list of books. I tend not to bother with the extra entries bit - nice to win something once in a while, but books and blogs to read and write and time goes by too fast.

How exciting! Both the blogoversary and the giveaway. Extra entries? I could take them or leave them. I don't mind them but I usually only do them so I can have the same chance as everyone else. But sometimes I can't even be bothered. So I wouldn't care if they weren't there.

I follow on blogger. My profile page is here:

I like it better without all the extra entries - everyone gets one shot and it is just easier for everyone but could understand you wanting people to learn about your blog.

Congrats on your blogoversary.

Patricia Briggs' Dragon Blood
Chris Marie Green's A Drop of Red
Sue-Ellen Welfonder's A Highlander's Temptation

Congratulations on your Blogoversary!

Extra entries are nice, but not everyone (myself included) participates in all the different social networks out there today. In spite of not having scads of extra entries, I have been lucky to have my name drawn from the cyberhat several times! I think extra entries should be limited to 2 verifiable methods. IMO, it would be easier for you and level the playing field for everyone.

Now, if my name is drawn, I'd love to win any of the following (in no particular order):
Michelle Rowen's Tall, Dark & Fangsome
Molly Harper's Nice Girls Don't Date Dead Men
Patricia Briggs' Dragon Blood
Chris Marie Green's A Drop of Red
Sue-Ellen Welfonder's A Highlander's Temptation

My dear Drey, congrats on your 1st year of awesome blogging =). Yours is one of the very first blogs I came across when I started mine in December of last year. And yours isn't that much older than mine but it's way better!! I love coming to visit.

I follow you through Blogger.

I always enjoy extra entries, it boosts my chances to win. However, I know what a pain in the butt they are to count so I understand if you're wanting to get rid of them. It's a tough choice because the extra entries can bring traffic to the giveaway sometimes...

Thanks Drey,

Sorry about that =(

Academ's Fury : Jim Butcher
Bonewrecker & Godslayer : Jacqueline Carey
A Change in Altitude : Anita Shreve

Thanks again!

I don't mind seeing extra entries; however, I generally don't take advantage of "follow" and "tweet" entries because I just have too much going on to keep my email weeded down already without additional things like twitter, etc. I keep the sites I like bookmarked, and sometimes throw links to my friends.

This is a wonderful giveaway, and, after looking through the books listed and excerpts and reviews, I would love to ready any of the following (in descending order):

1. Liam Hearn's Tales of the Otori (not just because it's a 3-book set, but because we are a multicultural family, my ex-husband being partly of Japanese descent. As such, my daughters have a fascination with Japan - the culture, the history, decorative items, books about, etc. and these books would keep all of us occupied and interested.)

2. Hyperion (Hugo award-winner - I've always been a HUGE sci-fi/fantasy buff and this looks like a GREAT read)

3. A Change in Altitude (Anita Shreve - one of my favorite authors)

4. Academ's Fury - based on the reviews

5. Japan Took the J.A.P. out of me (again, Japan and it's culture)

6. Bleak History (an urban fantasy? Sounds like a unique read to me)

7. How Perfect is That? (based on the synopsis and reviews, I'm certain that this would be a nice, escapist read)

Congrats on the blogoversary.

I follow via Google Friend Connect in Google Reader.

I like extra entries up to a point, commenting, following, posting, linking all ok. But I think there should be a limit. Following on the blog and twitter is cool, but when you start expanding it to too many other sites that can bog it down.

Books I would choose in order:

- Mindy Klasky's Magic and the Modern Girl
- Zoey Dean's Hollywood is Like High School with Money
- Chris Marie Green's A Drop of Red
- Molly Harper's Nice Girls Don't Date Dead Men
- Amber Benson's Death's Daughter
