BTT - Unread, pt. 2...

July 16, 2009
w00t! It's still Thursday! =)

This week at Booking through Thursday, they're (still) talking unread books:
Follow-up to last week’s question:
Do you keep all your unread books together, like books in a waiting room? Or are they scattered throughout your shelves, mingling like party-goers waiting for the host to come along?

All of my unread books are on my bookshelf. One for those that need to be reviewed (i.e. they came from publishers, publicists, or authors) and one for those that are just hanging around till I pick 'em up. I'm running out of room for the latter, so I should probably crack the whip, eh?

Once they're read, they'll sit in a pile by the laptop until I get the reviews done, then they usually go into the "I've-read-these-but-don't-feel-compelled-to-permanently-shelve-them-so-they'll-go-to-a-new-home-sometime" pile next to the bookshelf. Phew. What about you?

Interesting question. About 6 months ago I found these really nice small wicker suitcases at a garage sale and thought they would look really nice in front of the fireplace that we never use in our bedroom and I could put books in them since we didn't have bookshelves in that room. That is where I put my TBR books. Well, then I found PBS, then I found book blogs and giveaways and I've always been lucky, so now, all 3 suitcases are full and all the floor around them and all the way up to the bottom of the mantle and the coffee table in the living room has big drawers so they are filled with the ones I have won that I need to write reviews on and need to read first and the dining table if full of the ones that I have read and have listed on PBS to trade and it is all out of hand!!!!

TBR: mixed reactions?

Well, my TBR pile is rather extensive. I scour used books and have several trilogies and series missing one or two volumes. So I obtained a couple of small dressers just deep enough to place two rows of paperback on end, which are full. I have a separate shelves for those book that are larger, and won't fit in them.
As I finish reading a book, it goes into a shopping bag kept for this purpose. I have a wonderful independent bookseller. She sells used books, but she also has some new books. She orders all my new books for me - and gives me a discount better that the big name stores. I then trade in my used books for credit toward more used books. This way the books are recycled for others to enjoy. I also have a rather large balance in my used book credit file. If I find myself feeling "down", I can spend an hour or two lost in the stacks. It really helps.

I don't keep many books after I've read them. Most get swapped or donated, so all of my shelves are TBR.
