About the book:
Chloe Saunders sees dead people. Yes, like in the films. The problem is, in real life saying you see ghosts gets you a one-way ticket to the psych ward. And at 15, all Chloe wants to do is fit in at school and maybe get a boy to notice her. But when a particularly violent ghost haunts her, she gets noticed for all the wrong reasons. Her seemingly crazed behaviour earns her a trip to Lyle House, a centre for 'disturbed teens'. At first Chloe is determined to keep her head down. But then her room mate disappears after confessing she has a poltergeist, and some of the other patients also seem to be manifesting paranormal behaviour. Could that be a coincidence? Or is Lyle House not quite what it seems...? Chloe realizes that if she doesn't uncover the truth, she could be destined for a lifetime in a psychiatric hospital. Or could her fate be even worse...? Can she trust her fellow students, and does she dare reveal her dark secret?
drey's thoughts:
Chloe is a normal 15-year-old, trying to fit in at her new school. Well, until she sees the ghost of a bloody janitor and totally freaks out (wouldn't you?)... Next thing she knows, she's at this group home called the Lyle House, where she's supposed to get "better"... Her dad's not around much, and her mom's dead. Her only other family member is her aunt Lauren, who does come to visit, eventually.
While at Lyle House, Chloe starts noticing that all the residents are teenagers, and they're all medicated. Assuming that the meds are supposed to help her not see ghosts, Chloe tries to play along so she can go home. Until she realizes that there may be a more sinister reason the kids are all there. And she starts working with a few of the other residents to try and figure out what's going on at Lyle House.
Do you remember that animated movie "Monster House" or something like that? Where the kid thinks the house is trying to eat him? Well, Lyle House is kinda like that--you go in, and you might never come out. The Summoning is the beginning of a new trilogy for Kelley Armstrong, and I thought it was a very interesting read. It's more of a teens-try-to-figure-out-what's-going-on-with-them kind of read, instead of a paranormals-kick-ass one. I've got The Awakening on my library list next, hopefully whoever's got it now will finish it quickly! =)

I really enjoyed this book, and I can't wait to get my hands on The Awakening.
Silly me. I put my library hold books "on hold"... *sigh* This is what happens when I try to be responsible (not getting library books when I have a pile to be read & reviewed). =(
I just finished this one and really enjoyed it. I'm stalking The Awakening through the library now :-)
Yet another series I keep hearing good things about. I may just to pop over to the library to pick these up.
