Tour: 106. A Worthy Legacy by Tomi Akinyanmi...

July 6, 2009
Today's tour is for Tomi Akinyanmi's A Worthy Legacy...

About the book:
Words can be hugely powerful...
The Harmattan wind scorches across Nigeria, and an old man lies dying. His community gathers to pay its respects; their haunting songs echoing in the warm twilight. Around his bed his family is gathered and they listen as he speaks his last words. Yet in the face of death this old man doesn't talk of regrets, neither does he talk of petty grievances, instead he talks softly about life; how to survive, how to be happy and how to achieve self-respect.

'A WORTHY LEGACY' is a book far greater than its sum of parts; a moral guide that does not preach or command, but simply presents a code for life with a confidence and credibility that allows the reader to relate to and apply its philosophies.

About the author:
Tomi (aka Ibitomilade) discovered her enthusiasm for writing at an early age, and has been writing for over twenty years. Though poetry is her first love, Tomi was inspired by personal experiences to create “A Worthy Legacy” as her first book. Tomi’s works which include “Voices in the Wind” winner of the inaugural Voices Anthology Contest sponsored by The Voices Anthology Network have been featured both online and in print. Tomi also loves to draw and sing. Samples of her work are posted on her website, www.tomi-akinyanmmi.com. She also maintains a blog at http://tomiakinyanmi.wordpress.com.

drey's thoughts:
A Worthy Legacy is a very quick read, but worthwhile for the simple but oft-forgotten message contained within. If you read a lot of about spirituality or mindfulness, this is not something that will be new. However, the story of a grand-daughter returning home to bear witness to her grand-father's words before his death, is a touching story to wrap around the life lessons between the covers.

Thank you to Tomi for my copy. What a lovely way to honor your father's memory.
