Giveaway: Permission Slips by Sherri Shepherd...

October 8, 2009
permission slipsToday's giveaway is Sherri Shepherds' Permission Slips: Every Woman's Guide to Giving Herself a Break. I am SO with that!! *grin*

About the book:
Covering topics such as "It's Jesus or Jail," "Marriage, the Hard Way," "Children: The Gift You Can't Give Back," and "All the Things I Don't Know...And All the Things I Definitely Do," stand-up comedienne, actress, and ABC's The View co-host Sherri Shepherd comically chronicles her struggles to keep up with the many roles-professional, wife, mother, daughter, and friend-that women must play in today's world. Sherri urges women to pursue their most important dreams and to never give up, but also let's readers know that it's okay to give themselves "permission slips" when things don't always work out the way they want them to.

Giveaway!
Thanks to Hachette Book Group, I have up to five copies of Permission Slips for you...
Rules:
-- Contest is open to US and Canada residents, no PO Boxes please!
-- To enter, comment and share: What do you do to give yourself a break? How often do you do it? I try to take a "mental health" day about once a month. Sometimes I schedule a massage. Sometimes I sit in a coffee shop and read. Sometimes I check out a chick-flick. Whatever it is, I usually have to be done in time to pick up the monkey--er, little man--from school... =)
-- Follow for 1 extra entry.
-- Share for 2 extra entries (let me know what & where, please).
-- Every 10 people entered gets another copy in the hat, so tell everyone! =)
-- Do it all before 6:00 pm CST October 21st. Good luck!

I just like a day by myself looking through antique shops, consignment shops, and book stores. I do not want to have anybody else along so I can set my own pace!

Every couple of months, I get my husband to drop me at the main downtown library on his way to work. I spend the entire day looking & reading.

In the in-between times, I try to get one evening every 10 days or so when I go to bed at 6:30 & read until midnight. It's especially cozy this time of year, under the electric blanket.

I don't take time outs for myself as often as I should. Every couple of months, a couple of girlfriends and I try to get together for dinner and a movie. My husband and I also try to do dinner and a movie ourselves every couple of weeks when my parents are able to watch the kids.

I follow. And to give myself a break I deliberately don't do something that I know is waiting to be done. I'll pay for it tomorrow, but today I worked on my website and it was fun!

I don't have stress since I retired. That was my biggest stress reliever right there! LOL

To adjust my attitude, I pull out a book, curl up in my recliner and read...my favorite pastime.

I guess that going to one of the local casinos is my stress reliever. For a little bit, I can actually forget how much my body is hurting as I wait for my next surgery. It is really great when I am winning.

Since I am older and my 4 kids are grown, I have a little more time for myself now.

To relax and de-stress, my favorite activity is my weekly painting class at a local craft store. I look forward to those 3 hours to paint whatever I want and enjoy the company of my fellow artists.

I also treat myself to an occasional manicure or pedicure.

Just going to a bookstore is a stress buster for me too. Even if I don't buy anything, the combination smell of books and coffee is the best thing in the world to me!

I live in a coastal city, so I try to catch a glimpse of the bayfront or beach at least once a week. Just driving by is heavenly and an occasional walk by the water is even better.

My daily relaxation this time of the year is to curl up late at night with a good book, a blanket and one of my dogs or cats.
