There's a serial killer on the loose, and he's hunting young, beautiful women, because he is returning God's favorites to Him, as brides. He is smart, meticulous, and completely nuts.
Brad Raines is the FBI agent hunting down the Bride Collector. He doesn't seem to play well with others, with the exception of his partner Nikki Holden, and displays obsessive-compulsive tendencies. In the course of their investigation, Brad and Nikki visit a home for the mentally ill and exceptionally gifted. There, they meet a quartet of patients whose help they eventually enlist.
The best part of The Bride Collector is the interaction with, and amongst, the patients. The stark differences between when they are "normal"--as we would consider it--and not, is eye-opening. I was a little surprised at how easy it was for the FBI to convince them to help with the case, as this is surely not standard operating procedure. But sometimes you take whatever help you can get. And with 4 bodies already, they need any help they can get.
While The Bride Collector excelled at its character portrayal (not just the patients, but the killer as well), I thought it was predictable. As soon as Brad and Nikki visited The Center for Wellness and Intelligence, I knew where that would bring the story arc. Then reading became a matter of seeing how they got to the end. Nonetheless, this is a satisfying read for fans of the genre.

I live in a very small town with a low crime rate. When something bad happens here, it has a very big impact. Several years ago, a woman was abducted in broad daylight less than a block from our courthouse. She was driven outside the town limits, and then the unfortunate lady was held at gunpoint and raped. Her rapist was captured, but several "copycat" abduction attempts occurred in the following months. Very sad for my "Mayberry" community.
I live less than an hour from a famous resort which employs many people. Almost two years ago, one of the employees went on a shooting spree, injuring many and killing two fellow employees. The shooter escaped and has yet to be captured. Such a cruel, destructive, heartbreaking act.

When I was in high school and looking for a college, my choice was to go to a Boston school (I lived in rural Indiana). My mother wouldn't let me because of the Boston Strangler!
She said I'd open the door to any stranger (and she was right). I didn't get to go to Boston.
But now, 47 year later, i live an hour outside of Boston and love it.

I've only read one of Dekker's books, but I thought it was predictable. I don't know of any serial killers around here, but we haven't lived here that long.

I am thankful that there have not been any serial killers in our area. I do live near the Murrah Building Bombing where lives will never be the same because of it. I lost two friends in the bombing.

Years ago (early 60's I believe), there were 6 coeds from University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, MI that were killed. Shortly after the body of the 6th woman was found, a man living in my hometown of Flint was arrested for the murders. When he was arrested, the killing stopped. Don't remember if I ever heard if he went to trial or the outcome of said trial.

We actually had one that was featured on CNN briefly in rocky mount whereas black prostitutes were being murdered & bodies dumped into a field and the authorities finally figured out several weeks ago that it was all linked.
