drey's thoughts:
In a world where books with paranormal characters fill shelves everywhere, Maggie Stiefvater's Shiver is a refreshingly quiet love story. Grace is not an ass-kicking, half-anything,weapon-wielding, bad-guy-scaring kinda gal. And Sam is... just Sam. Who's watched Grace forever, wishing he could talk to her. Then one day, he does.
In Sam's world, the wolves only turn human in summer, and they only have so many years of turning. Knowing that this may be his last year, he finally approaces Grace. And so their story begins.
Not that Shiver is just about Sam and Grace. There's the pack, and its leader's attempt to provide continuity for it once he can no longer turn. There's Sam's haunting past. There's Grace's dead-turned-wolf classmate, who's sure she knows how he can stay human. And all throughout, there's the knowledge that Sam may never return to human form, lending poignancy to this sweet love story.
Shiver is written sparingly, the words between the covers serve a purpose, and serves it well. I'm off to pick up Linger.

This is a series that I haven't picked up yet, though I have heard a lot of great things about it. Just added both Shiver and Linger to my Wish List...
Great review!
I won this recently and I'm excited about giving it a try.
Great review. I've had this on my tbr shelf for a while now and really need to get to reading it soon. Thanks for reminding me lol.
I finally just read it as well--you captured the feel of it much better than I! I am waiting for Linger too, which my friend tells me is in green print. Thought the blue type was interesting.
Kathy & justpeachy36, I hope you enjoy them!
Trillian & holdenj, thank you!! I'm hoping to get to Linger in the next couple weeks...
