BTT - Libraries...

April 2, 2009
Sheesh. I don't think I made it to one of these all of March. Bah! Well, at least it's still Thursday. This week at Booking through Thursday, they're talking libraries:
I saw that National Library week is coming up in April, and that led to some questions. How often do you use your public library and how do you use it? Has the coffeehouse/bookstore replaced the library? Did you go to the library as a child? Do you have any particular memories of the library? Do you like sleek, modern, active libraries or the older, darker, quiet, cozy libraries?

I LOVE my public library. I go at least once a week, and regret it when I don't. Really. Because I usually have something that needs to go back, and I have overdue fees if I don't make it there... =P One of the challenges I'm doing this year is the Support Your Library challenge, hosted by J.Kaye's Book Blog. I signed up for 25 books, and so far have beaten that goal by 8. I don't actually read there, though. I sign out my books online, and go pick 'em up when they're ready. About the only loitering I do in the library is in the children's section, when the little man is looking for his next book.

My first introduction to the library was at Seth Johnson Elementary School in Montgomery, Alabama. I was there for about 7 months, and I think I read every single book in that library. And it's all gone downhill from there! =P When we moved back home, I pretty much used the bookstore as my own personal literary heaven. That's where I learned to treat books oh-so-carefully.

Yeah, I'm glad you love your library and use it. I hope all your local librarians read your blog.

Awww, Melanie! I don't actually know my librarians. =( Shame on me, I know! But I'm always heading somewhere. Can't linger... Maybe when the little man's old enough to linger with?

Isn't it fun to see what the little ones will find that interests them? Right now my 4 yr old boy is totally into dragons, and 2 yr old girl likes any book that is the color pink. :)

I can't wait till my little boys are big enough to appreciate the library.

Hi Drey,
Great post by the way. It got me to thinking how I could use an on-line library for my ever growing reading habit. I am in a wheelchair as you know and it is kind of difficult to get to my local library. Do you or one of your followers know of a good on-line library to download books directly to my computer. Even if there a small fee for the download that is ok because we all have to support the library system.
Thanks-much,
Robert

As a kid I used to run a smal library for the kids of our block. Now my niece is doing the same.

Wow, you're doing great on your library challenge. I'm failing miserably-lol. I keep taking out a pile of books but never getting to them.

My mom had me in the library from since I can remember-we would always go together pick out books and have lunch. It was nice.

My favorite teacher in elementary school was the librarian. I spent so much time there, I can still see the layout in my head. I'm at our local library once a week, with my boys and on my own!
