96. Crossed Wires by Rosy Thornton...

June 18, 2009
Crossed Wires is the story of Mina, who works for a call center handling insurance claims, and Peter, a Cambridge geography professor. They "meet" over the phone when Peter calls about an insurance claim. The first of several, actually. And somehow just talking strikes a chord in both of them. But, living in separate cities--he in Cambridge, she in Sheffield--they brush off that connection, and go on with their lives.

One day, Mina calls Peter after hours--to tell him something about his insurance claim, and they start talking. Which leads to more calls, and more talking... Crossed Wires builds the romance slowly, gently, kinda like a lazy river moving along as it will. Supporting characters include their children--Mina's a single parent, Peter's widowed with twins--and friends and family, which makes this book feel like a story about their lives, as opposed to a story about them. Pick it up for your beach bag.

This does sound like a cute book that's perfect for the lazy days of summer. Now, if I can only find a few days to be lazy.
