- 2010 Challenges
I signed up for 7 challenges in 2009, but I was not very good at keeping track of the 2009 Challenges I participated in. I did the reading, but did not follow up on the lists, the Mr. Linky updates, or the challenge completion posts. Yes, I'm slacking... So, for 2010, I have decided to stick with just two--the 2010 100+ Challenge, and the 2010 Support Your Local Library Challenge. Both are hosted by J. Kaye's Book Blog, and you will see my posts soon. Does this mean I will never participate in any other challenge? Probably not. But those will be few and far between, and likelier to happen with very short (time-length) challenges... If you are looking for reading challenges for 2010, start at J. Kaye's. She's got lots. =) - 2010 TBR
While I hope that I'll still read quite a bit next year, I'm cutting down a tad. My TBR pile is still huge, and I don't seem to making much headway into it. My apologies to the publishers, promoters, and authors still waiting. My goal for 2010 is to get through all the books in my TBR pile next year, before I go all hog wild and start grabbing for more books. - 2010 Reviews
My reviews will post only during the weekdays, so you won't miss anything if you have other plans on the weekends--plans that don't include swinging by here, lol! And speaking of reviews, I am considering using a rating system. I don't have graphics yet, but here's what my ratings will mean:
5 = Outstanding. I can't believe everyone hasn't read this/doesn't love it. These will be very few and far between. While I am a book slut, I don't LOVE everything I read.
4 = Excellent. Interesting characters, plots, storylines, etc. Something that is good enough that most people will read in one sitting. Or try to. And when I say "most people" I don't include myself, because I usually read everything in one sitting...
3 = Good. Good characters, plots, storylines, etc. but doesn't have the oomph of an excellent read. I will state here that most books I read will be rated a 3.
2 = OK. I finished the book, just to find out what happens in the end. You decide if you'd like the opportunity to read it--and rate it--for yourself.
1 = Didn't finish. A book that I didn't finish, couldn't make myself finish, didn't care if I finished. These will be few and far between. Out of all the books I read in 2009, I only put down 3. Yes, I'm a complete sucker for words printed on a page. *sigh* - 2010 Ban on Spending Challenge
This is my first year as a challenge host, and I've decided to let those with better challenge-hosting skills take over. So, if anyone's interested in hosting the Ban on Spending Challenge, holler. You're welcome to it.
As it is, while I've been very successful at not spending any money on books this year (other than using giftcards that I received), I have not been as successful at reducing my TBR pile (see #2 above). And even though I did get a few books with my giftcards, I am now thinking of saving those to buy a nook with... - Authors
I would like to spotlight authors in 2010. Kinda like an author-of-the-month thing. Keep your fingers crossed that I figure out what I want to do, soon enough to start off in January! And if you're an author reading this, let me know if you'd be interested... There'll be questions to answer, and ... um ... other things I'll come up with. And if there's already a meme or challenge for this somewhere, do let me know! I'm not trying to step on anyone's toes. - Giveaways
Yes, I will still host giveaways. See my post on changes for 2010 giveaway entries. - eBooks
If (and that's a big IF) I do get my grubby mitts on a nook, I will be open to reviewing eBooks. I will note here though, that while I haven't read a lot of eBooks, some of the ones I have read, leave a lot to be desired--especially in the area of editing, grammar, and punctuation. Maybe I need to add a grading system for this? In any case, if I do start accepting eBooks, I will change my policy accordingly. - The end. For now. Thank you for reading!!

I love list. Love your goals. Best wishes for a successful 2010. Happy Reading.
Just a thought for your grading system, and it is not originally mine. I have seen a few bloggers, I'm sorry I can't remember which ones, actually rate different aspects of the book such as plot, editting, character development, even cover art, before giving an overall rating. It makes it easier for people to see why you rated a book low.
I love seeing all the posts lately about what people are going to be doing in 2010. It really has me thinking about what I would like to do. A rating system is something I've been contemplating. I think most books would probably get a 3 or 4 from me. It takes a LOT to get a 5 and I don't really like spending my time on the 1 and 2 books. I just don't like that Amazon considers a 3 to be negative because for so many of us it really isn't.
Anyway, love your list :-)
Interested author here... one who misses you, too!
I've been thinking of some changes myself - you and J.Kaye have articulated them well!
Toni~ Same to you! Happy reading!
Jasmyn~ I get what you're saying, I've seen that around, too. But I don't think I'm good at dissecting that stuff. We'll see. All I can do is try, right?
Angela~ Yeah, I don't like that either. But, this is my review and my rating, so... =)
Susan~ I miss you too! I wish work wasn't so busy, & I could spend more time online instead of working. Even after I get home.
LuAnn~ lol, most of this got in my brain because of J.Kaye... She's making changes there, and while mine aren't quite so drastic, she did put a thought or two in my head...
